February is Black History Month, and 3rd grader Cayson Blanchard has a direct link to an individual who played a key role in desegregating education. His grandfather James Hood was one of the first black students to attend the University of Alabama. Beginning in August, all schools at DMPS will have new hours. The new hours at our school will be 7:30 AM to 2:25 PM. The change is being made to better serve the educational needs of students, based on research into the sleep patterns of children and teenagers. Click the headline for more information.
At last night’s School Board meeting major plans were approved for Cowles Montessori School and Jackson Elementary School. Jackson will have an addition of four classrooms plus a gymnasium. Click on the headline to read more.

In between a career that began in the U.S. Navy in World War II and ended as the doorkeeper for the Iowa Senate, Robert Langbehn spent 38 years as an educator, including several years as principal at Jackson Elementary School.
